Many of our Rebound members have told us that they didn’t initially think that Rebound was for them. They were confused by the term ‘carer’, believing that this meant supporting a loved one’s physical as well as mental well being.
It is difficult to use a generic term for people whose lives are being torn apart by watching a loved one become unrecognisable to them because of their addiction to drugs and/or alcohol. People in this category do not recognise themselves as ‘carers’ and are therefore put off contacting us.
We provide support to anyone in this category – we could call ourselves ‘family support’ or ‘parent support’ but those who have a friend, neighbour, partner/civil partner might not feel able to contact us.
We like to make the distinction that Rebound is here for those who care about, but not necessarily care for a loved one.
We hope this clarifies the service we offer.
