Anna Jackson, Service Manager, Portsmouth Community Recovery Services and Jan Tribe, Supported Housing Team Leader
Anna and Jan visited last Tuesday to update our members on the recovery services provided in the city by the Society of St James.
Anna produced a booklet which contained the programme guide of the Portsmouth Community Day Rehab, a pioneering project aiming to provide an intensive level of therapeutic support and intervention for those whose needs cannot be met in the Community Group settings. The Programme uses the Recovery Capital Model and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Anna also told us about the Re-Fit Activities Programme – a timetable of activities to encourage positive change. These include gym sessions, badminton, football, table tennis, chess club, boxing and fitness. They also run an NVQ Health & Social Care Level 2 & 3 for those who wish to gain an accredited qualification.
Jan spoke to the group about Portsmouth Substance Misuse Accommodation & Support Service, which guives supported accommodation for adults with problematic alcohol and substance misuse issues. Referrals come through the Housing Panel at Portsmouth City Council. Contact 02392 838248.
Members were interested to learn how much help and support is available to those in addiction when they finally want to access them. The reality that the notion of “no help out there” which is commonly told to them by their addicted loved ones, is simply not true.
Thank you Anna and Jan
