Tracy Batchelor, Family Support Worker at the Society of St James, visited Rebound on Tuesday 4th June 2019 to tell us about a new Family Support Project being rolled out for families affected by alcohol use. They are funded by Public Health England to help support families to reduce the impact of alcohol.
They meet families with children up to 18 years of age to get to know what is important to them and what changes they would like to make in order to achieve these aims. The Family Worker will agree to meet with the families on mutually agreed times over 12 weeks to discuss what kind of support would be useful for them as a whole family.
They receive referrals from schools, colleges and service providers. There are no long waiting times or forms, and can be contacted on 0800 138 0355 or email family.support@ssj.org.uk
Although Rebound were pleased to hear about this new initiative which seeks to support young people, we were disappointed to learn that they are not supporting young people within families who are affected by drug use.
