The stage play by Mike Howl was adapted from the book of the same name by Elizabeth Burton (pictured with Rebound Group volunteers). It charts the tragic journey of Elizabeth and her twin boys, Nick and Simon, who as young men became addicted to heroin resulting in Nick’s death and Simon turning his life around in the name of his twin.
Having experienced a performance of the play, last year in Southampton, it was strongly felt by all who attended that we should bring this emotional story to Portsmouth and the Rebound Committee has worked hard for the past year to achieve this.
It is with great pride and satisfaction that we can report that all of the four free performances were very well attended and well received, and included not only Rebound members but also carers, school children, youth centre attendees and Health Care Professional based in and out of the city.
The play was thought-provoking and sometimes harrowing and staging the production in Portsmouth has undoubtedly raised the profile of those carers who are dealing with the effects of addiction on their loved ones and themselves.
Some of the cast members have changed since the play was staged in Southampton last year, but it is plain to see that the Director and Actors have continued to enhance their performance standards with each new production.
The play coming to Portsmouth was promoted by BBC TV South.
